Recorded live at The Village Vanguard in New York on June 25, 1961, this was the fourth album by the Bill Evans Trio, comprised of pianist Bill Evans, bassist Scott LaFaro, and drummer Paul Motian. LaFaro was one of the supreme jazz bassists, a virtuoso player whose playing changed the very conception of the instrument. This album unfortunately also represents one of LaFaro's last performances, recorded just days before his tragic death at the age of 25 in an automobile accident.
